Buy MTB cleaners and care products

Here are a couple of tips that will give you a better idea of what you need:

First step: remove the coarse dirt from the MTB

The first step should be a general cleaning: in order to do that, you should use a brush or, if you have the possibility, a garden hose, then wash up the bike a first time.

Second step: clean the MTB thoroughly

Now it is time for the thorough cleaning. In order to do that you need a couple of MTB cleaning products and different brushes and cloths.

Drivetrain cleaner

You can clean the drivetrain with specific products: all you need to do is to spray chain, cassettes, chainrings and rear derailleurs and then gently scrub the dirt off with a little brush. It is better to use a specific product, because they contain materials that liquefy the tough dirt created from chain grease and mud.

This step is very important, because if you put new chain grease etc. on a dirty drivetrain the whole thing will mix and create persistent dirt that can damage the drivetrain in the long run.

MTB cleaner

With MTB cleaning products you can spray your entire bike. Just let it do his thig and then brush the dirt away with a couple of brushes and cloths to wipe the dirt off the smooth surfaces.

Brushes

Cloths for drying

In addition to sponges, cloths, and brushes for cleaning, you should also have at hand cloths for drying, in the best case you should use high-quality microfiber cloths.

Third step: MTB care

When your bike is finally spick and span again, you can go on with the caring process and restore the protecting films.

Grab an oil, grease or wax chain spray and spray the clean chain with them, but do not exaggerate. In this way the chain will be smoother and will be better protected from corrosion. Tip: be careful and don’t let the chain fat reach the brake discs.

To protect ball bearings, bottom brackets, and headsets from corrosion and to improve the performance you can use adequate fats (like assembly grease for example) like the Muc-Off Bio Grease or the r.s.p. Special Grease for suspension forks and rear shocks.

Finish: you can find various products also for the final polishing depending on the finish that you want to give to your bike, like for example polishing wax for a shiny finish or special care sprays for a matte one.

The best finish for your MTB obviously depends on your bike and on your driving style. For example, there are pastes specifically made for carbon frames or chain oil made of wax extra for dry and dusty conditions on the trail.
