Motocross and Enduro rainwear: armed against wetness

Experienced motocrossers and enduro riders will not keep rain away from their bikes. Therefore you should wear the right rain gear if you don't want to sit on the bike completely soaked. Where the differences are and what to look out for, we explain here.

Rain jackets, rain trousers and rain suits

Depending on whether you want strong or light protection, there are different types of rainwear. There is the classic rain jacket, but also rain trousers and even complete rain suits. With the rain jackets you should make sure that the upper body protector fits under the jacket without any problems, so that it doesn't stretch and stresses the material unnecessarily. You should also make sure that the rain trousers can be worn over the knee pads and cross trousers without any problems, so that they fit comfortably during the ride. For maximum protection you should use a complete rain suit. Here you have to pay attention if the suit consists of single components which can be connected with each other or if it is a continuous rain set. Ultimately, each rider must decide for himself which version is the most comfortable. However, it is important to try on the rain gear together with the motocross or enduro gear before buying, because the rain cover must not be too tight or too loose.

Water repellent or waterproof?

Before you buy, you should decide for yourself whether you want to have water-repellent or waterproof motocross and enduro clothing. The somewhat simpler, water-repellent jackets protect against light drizzle and light splashes when riding through puddles. Waterproof off-road jackets, on the other hand, keep you dry even in heavy rain thanks to the appropriate membranes. Examples of this are Goretex, Vaude Ceplex or Vaude Sympatex. If you are looking for particularly safe rain protection, make sure that the seams are taped or welded so that no water can penetrate them either.

Features

Before buying a rain jacket, rain trousers or rain suit you should find out about the features. You can always find them in the description of the respective product. The jackets for example are available with or without hood but also sleeveless rain jackets are available. The trousers, on the other hand, have models that are a little wider at the ankles but also have an elastic waistband. The right choice also depends on your own boots and which type of trousers are more compatible with the respective MX boots. Additional pockets on the jacket and trousers are particularly useful for the Enduro sector.
