MX & enduro pants: Basic equipment for every rider

Whether motocross or enduro, beginner or professional - the perfect pants are the be-all and end-all for every rider. Where the differences lie and what you should consider when buying, we explain here.

Difference between motocross and enduro pants

Before you buy a pair of pants, you should first of all check whether they are for motocross or enduro, as there are already major differences. Pants for enduro are usually made of a thicker, tear-resistant material and are equipped with closable pockets. Cross pants are designed to perform and are therefore usually a little thinner & lighter, but not as durable. There are also differences in the fit, because many enduro pants are cut wider at the ankle so that they can be worn over the boots. MX trousers, on the other hand, are worn in the boots so that they do not hinder the rider and get caught on the bike, which can lead to accidents.

Setting options

With cross trousers, it is particularly important that they fit and are not too loose or tight. Therefore, you should consider which adjustment options are available for the trousers and which of them are most comfortable and easy to adjust. Most of the trousers have a ratchet fastener on the front, for which many brands also offer suitable first parts in case they break. The velcro fastener is also popular with many manufacturers. However, you should take care to keep the Velcro fastener clean and dry so that maximum hold can be guaranteed. Some brands also use an adjustment wheel on the back of the trousers, with which you can adjust them individually tighter or wider at the hips.

Material & processing

MX or Enduro pants are mainly made of polyester, often with nylon inserts for ventilation. Many pants are either reinforced at the knees or even have a heat-resistant leather insert, because especially in this region you are close to the bike and can burn yourself on the hot material if there is not enough protection. Some manufacturers also offer cross trousers with additional hip pads, which can be removed if necessary. Whether your desired trousers have padding or not, you will always find out in the respective article description. So that not only the trousers but also the jersey does not slip, the trousers are reinforced with silicone on the inner waistband so that the jersey stays in place when riding and does not suddenly slip out of the trousers. When it gets hotter in summer, many brands also offer thinner, better ventilated models. Here you should note, however, that due to the thinner material these are often not as popular as conventional cross trousers or Enduro trousers.

Fit & cut

DaSo that you don't get stuck on the bike when riding because of too loose clothing, you should therefore attach great importance to the correct fit. Most manufacturers offer a detailed size chart, which you can use as a guide even before you buy. When you have the trousers on at home, you can check if they fit or not. At the ankles, the trousers are cut a little tighter, as they are usually worn in the boots. So that the trousers do not wear out there and press against the leg, they are a little tighter at the lower waistband. In the knee area, however, the trousers are slightly looser so that leg protectors can still be worn underneath without any problems. Again: Put on your complete gear before your first ride and check if the individual parts of your combo are comfortable to wear together.

Pants for women & kids

Especially big and popular brands have extended their regular range of cross trousers for men with MX pants for women and children. Women can usually also wear pants for men, but the cut is adapted to the female physique. To ensure that the motocross or enduro pants fit properly, women should also use the appropriate products. But there is also a large selection of trousers for the youngsters. Here, however, one must also pay attention to the description of the article. "Junior" products are mostly for children up to 5 years, for children from 6 to 14 years the addition "Kids" applies. But as a precaution you should always check the size chart.
