In 2001, Dr. Chris Leatt drove to a motocross race with his son, where he witnessed a fatal accident. So the idea was born that there had to be protection and Dr. Leatt developed the wirst Leatt brace prototype.
The Leatt brace protection system was first introduced and sold in South Africa. Later, at the 6th International Motorcycle Conference in Cologne, Dr. Leatt and Andreas Geisinger introduced the Leatt brace protection system. The international breakthrough came in 2007 when the Leatt brace was presented in the Racer X magazine and rated as the best product of the year with 5/5 stars. One year later, the world-famous Leatt labs were founded. They are working on the improvement and expansion of the Leatt brace protection systems. Meanwhile the neck braces are also available for the mountain bike sport.
In 2010, the Leatt brace wins the BrandNew Award at the Bike Expo in Germany. Motocross and bike enthusiasts as well as professionals agree: Leatt brace neck protection has meanwhile become an indispensable part of standard protective equipment. The mountain bike pro Sam Hill and the motocross pro Ryan Dungey have convinced themselves of the performance of the Leatt brace. Due to its protection, accidents were less severe for the two professionals.
