Notes on disposal of spent batteries

The following information is directed towards end users using batteries or products with installed batteries:

1. Free return of waste batteries

Batteries may not be disposed of with domestic waste. You are legally obliged to return waste batteries to ensure a correct disposal. You can return waste batteries at a municipal collection point or local businesses. As a distributor of batteries we also have the legal obligation to take back waste batteries. Our take-back obligation regards only batteries we sell or used to sell in our webshop. These batteries you can send back to us with sufficient postage or bring them to the following address:

Maciag GmbH
Glashüttenstr. 1
01623 Lommatzsch
Germany

2. Meaning of the battery symbols

Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed trash can (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries may not be disposed of with domestic waste. Batteries containing more than 0,0005 percent by weight mercury, more than 0,002 percent by weight cadmium or more than 0,004 percent by weight lead are also marked with the chemical name of the particular harmful substance, "Cd" standing for cadmium, "Pb" for lead and "Hg" for mercury.

3. Vehicle batteries

The following special rules apply to the sale of vehicle batteries (batteries used for starter, light, or ignition): The seller is in accordance with § 10 BattG legally bound to charge a deposit in the amount of 7,50 Euro including sales tax per vehicle battery if the end user does not return a waste battery at the same time he purchases a new vehicle battery. The customer receives a deposit voucher with the purchase. The customer can return the waste battery to the seller in order to receive a reimbursement of the deposit. Due to the German Dangerous Goods Ordinance the shipping of vehicle batteries back to the seller is prohibited. Alternatively the customer can return the waste vehicle battery to a municipal collection point. If the battery is not returned to the seller who charged the deposit, the entitled recipient is due to § 11 Abs. 3, BattG legally bound to hand out a written or electronic confirmation of the return without reimbursement on the end user?s request. According to § 10 Abs. 1 S. 4 BattG the customer will get a reimbursement from the seller when he provides a written or electronical confirmation not older than two weeks at the time of presentation.
