MX arm protectors: Should be part of every basic equipment

Especially the elbows are a sensitive part of the body which is the first to be affected by injuries, especially in accidents. Therefore you should take care to protect this area especially well on the track. We explain the differences between the different protectors and what to look out for when buying them.

Elbow guards

As the name suggests, the elbow is protected here, either with a foam insert or a hard shell made of plastic. MX elbow pads in the high-priced segment often have additional protection on the forearm, a joint insert and an ergonomic fit. The latter is sometimes found in the cheaper segment. So when making your choice, you should ask yourself how much protection you need when riding motocross or how intensive you ride. As with other protectors you have to decide for yourself which fit and weight is most comfortable for you even when riding.

Wrist bandages

If you often have problems in your wrist or want to protect it after an accident, you should definitely use a wrist brace. Due to the joints and high-quality material, these allow excellent mobility even while driving and prevent the wrist from overstretching. Due to the additional padding there should be no lack of wearing comfort and of course these are also compatible with most gloves.

Protector jackets

If you want the prefect all-round protection, you should go for an MX protector jacket. Especially the long-sleeved protectors have a integrated elbow protection, so that an additional protector is unnecessary. If you have a chest protector or a protection shirt, you should make sure before buying that elbow protectors and upper body protector are compatible. Especially on the upper arm there are sometimes problems with the fit, as the elbow protectors are attached to the upper arm and some short-sleeved protection shirts could then get in the way, which can quickly become uncomfortable when riding.

Padded inserts & ventilation

As with most protectors for other parts of the body, the MX arm protectors also distinguish between soft and hard shell protectors. Particularly in the low-cost area, plastic protection is usually chosen and the high-priced protectors often have inserts made of PU foam, which are more comfortable, especially on long rides. The rest of the protector and therefore also the ventilation varies depending on the protector insert used. In the higher price segment there is a cut-out in the crook of the arm, which provides additional ventilation and more wearing comfort.

Locking options & spare parts

Basically you can differentiate between two different locking options for motocross arm protectors: two different locking options. Either the protector is designed as a sleeve that you can simply slip into or the protectors are held together on the upper and lower arm with a Velcro fastener. Many models also have a combination of the two to ensure the best fit, so that nothing slips during the ride. If you are using a protector with Velcro, make sure that there are spare straps or bands available before you buy. In addition, PU foam inserts are often sold separately as replacements.
